The Medieval Jews D.18.06.25

24 Jun

The call for holy war unleashed many forms of religious persecution within Europe. Jews were killed, and Jewish communities destroyed in both France and Germany.
The official Crusade to the Holy Land was surprisingly successful. The Crusading army passed through the lands of Byzantium and successfully captured Jerusalem, due in part to Muslim disunity.
When the Crusaders Took the city, they massacred the population. Jews were burned alive in their Synagogue. Muslims were slaughtered in the Mosques. Victorious crusaders wrote home that – our men rode in the blood of the Saracens up to the knees of their horses. Reprisals by Muslim forces in following years were equally bloody.
